Donald Holley

U.S. Veteran

Mr. Hubert Donald “Donnie” Holley of Bremen, known to many as Brother Bear, departed this life at the age of 68 at his residence on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Donald was born in Dora, AL to the late Mack & Nora Holley. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 where he served as a medic, which allowed him to serve as an avid member of the Walker County Honor Guard over the last decade. In 1969, Donald married his wife of 44 years, Janice Holley.

Donald and Janice took residence in Bremen, AL where they raised their three children, Renee (Wayne) Bailey of Warrior, AL; Scott (Bridgette) Holley of Bremen, AL and Jeremy (Melissa) Holley of Cullman, AL. Donald loved spending time with his grandchildren, Anthony Swindle, Gilbert Bailey, Dustin Holley, Brent Bailey, Logan Holley, Morgan Holley, Casey Davis and Lane Brannon. Also surviving are one brother, Howard “Whit” Holley of Phoenix, Arizona, and two sisters, Maxine Wright of Holbert, IN, and Nella Dean Mauldin of Sumiton, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Bell Sumiton Chapel with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Following the services Mr. Holley will be laid to rest at Rice’s Chapel Cemetery in Bremen.

Also preceding him in death were four of his brothers, James “Jim” Holley, Floyd Holley, Carroll Ray Holley, and  Charles “Charlie” Holley.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Garcia and the staff at the Cancer Center of Jasper as well as Comfort Care Hospice of Jasper.
